Okay, just putting a new system together. Abit KG-7 w/ an AMD 1.4 Tbird 266. 256 megs crucial DDR. When I try to boot the system, I get no signal to monitor. but it seems that the card is seated correctly. Also, the BIOS gives one long beep after another, which isn't what I got on my other Abit boards when no vid card was detected. I found nothing in the manual regarding the BIOS beep codes. It is a Phoenix BIOS, and I found online resources that list them, but as 1-1-2, 1-1-3, etc. I would guess that 1-1-2 means one long, one long, two short, but I don't know. If that's the case, I would describe the beeps that I'm getting as 1-1-1-1-1.... Anyone have any suggestions? Do I have some dead hardware? Any particular steps I should take? BTW, the vid card DOES work in a different system. Thanks for the input, I really need it.

Thanks for the reply :) That is by far more comprehensive than any other BIOS pages I've found. However, the same problem still arises. That is that none of the listed beep codes seem to correspond to the beeps I'm getting. The beeps I'm getting are the same in duration and at regular intervals. I'm lost :(

Oops! Sorry about blank. Thank you for the URL, it's very informative. However, I've run across the same problem in that the beeps I'm recieving do not correspond to any of the beep codes listed. Thanks for trying ;) I just had someone mention that long continuous beeps are often related to memory... does this sound reasonable?

from my experience that is an error code for a memory failure
either it isn't present, not properly seated, or simply faulty.
all the different brands of boards i've worked with are consitent in this respect
pulling out the memory and reseating it usualy solved the issue, or occasionaly changing the bank its seated in will do the trick if reseating doesn't

Yeah, I'll try reseating it again. Don't believe I can switch banks, however. The manual specifically notes that the banks need to be occupied from DIMM4 to DIMM1. Thanks again for the replies.
