Deciding on which old parts to keep

I've got the following parts that were running on Vista and was about to order a Windows 7 OS. They were a pretty good midrange build 5 years ago. Computer keeps crashing, so I'm going to rebuild. I'm looking to spend $1000 or less including OS.

Whats a sensible approach here? My thought was to keep the PSU, GPU, Case, Heat Sink, the HDDs for bulk storage and buy a SSD for OS, replace motherboard & processor & memory. Thoughts?
