Deciding on R/C Cars

i'm thinking about purchasing an electric one, gas is sorta outta my price range which is around 200-250 with everything to run it if possible. do you guys have any opinions on the model to get etc? good brands? models? thanks

I use to have a TA one till it got stolen :|. I spent like $100 on the speed control too!!! Damnit!!!

Anyways, Traxxas ones are rugged (me and my friend abused his old one and it still wouldn't break!!) and cheap too. You should look into those ones.

Street Ones? I think Traxxas makes dirt one only. (it's been 3 yrs since I haven't had a RC car so i'm a bit rusty). Look at the TA cars (Team Associated) they might have some you like. I forgot, but there is a major mailorder company that specialzes in RC Planes/Boats/Cars. I can't remember the name though.

Dirt ones are great in the street too. Because most street cars are really low and the shocks are really stiff. So if even you hit a pebal, disatser could strike. I would get a dirt one instead. Use it in the streets and the dirt!

id recommend the HPI RS4 sport 2. Its cheap and is really wasy to hop up later on. Get an electronic speed control too ( any by novak) , it really helps out with battery life and speed. If its your first car i recommend getting a Stock motor....just until you get better driving skills.

go to ww.hpiracing.com and visit their message board they have tons of great advice and recomendations.

I second the HPI route. I'm looking at their RS4 Racer2 or RS4 2. Also, because of the variety of bodies they have, you can also seem to have more than one car.. 😛

I have a gas boat since I live on the river. It is really funny to see the look on someones face cruising down the river and a 1/18 there size boat cruise up beside them.

$200-$250? Hmmm, seems a tad low including "everything to run it." I was in the market once. Seemed like it would be a nice hobby to take up. For a decent electric system, I totaled it up to near $500. I don't think gas would have been even 20% more. Seems like the best way to go for that difference.

FYI, I was considering a "Clod Buster" electric. What would be the equivilent gas machine these days?

i agree with urbantechie... dirt buggies/trucks all the way

but sorry urban... i'm down the team losi path and i own a LXT.. err i think, it's been a while for me.

yeah, i spent around $100 on the speed control too. It's a novak rooster reversable. Why reversable? cuz i can't drive :disgust:

i bought it off second hand from a friend though so i only paid about $100 for the truck and it came with motor and battery.

Cant' remember all the details but tell me the prices for:
  • Car
  • Radio
  • battery(s)
  • Charger(s)
  • Servos
  • Gear and/or Bearing kits...
I think $500.00 was a minimum for "good" stuff. Spending less seemed like wasting good money. If you're going to end up buying better quality stuff later, why not get it from the start. I just don't believe in "beginner" parts and equipment. Don't need the most exotic stuff either, though.

im spent $1000's of dollars on my r/c....i regret spending so much 🙂 .dont spend money like mad jsut get something that gets the job done and is fast enough....learn from my mistakes , buying lots of insanly expensive stuff isnt the way.

a guy in from my r/c track got his whole hopped up car stolen he had like 200$ batteries in it. he lost about $1000 , but he actually had his car insured , so he got the money back.

I remember going and racing cars back in the day. I kinda miss it. There were a lot of people that did it in my area. The cost of parts for a good car (RC-10 and LOSI were the kings at the time) can get hefty...

Servos usually come with the radio. I cannot stress this enough!! Get a dirt one with a maybe a 11turn motor and you'll haul ass on the dirt or road!!!!

<< yeah, i spent around $100 on the speed control too. It's a novak rooster reversable. Why reversable? cuz i can't drive :disgust: >>

LOL, you wuss!!! Haha, one thing those Other speed controlers (I forogt which brand, it was a japansese brand) always overheated and made my friends car go crazy!!! It was kinda funny 😀. But c'mon reversible?! I spent I think $120 on a Novak Tempest when it first came out. It was wicked, and I had like a 8turn motor...that thing smoked down my street.

OH! I want another one too! I had an RC-10 which was the coolest thing ever.. I even made little headlights for it.. I tinkered and tuned that sucker all the time.. never really raced with anyone just played with it. Then I found computers to play and tinker with and well.. Can anyone tell me what season it is? is there snow on the ground? I wonder if my grass needs mowed? 🙂
