Deciding on PS4 pro

I bought a PS4 in late 2015 and have never opened it. About to get a 4K tv.

So, of course, the PS4 pro is out.

Option 1: screw the PS4 pro, use the PS4 until 2019 and the PS5.
Option 2: Sell the PS4, lucky to get $200 it seems, and buy PS4 pro w/Horizon Zero Dawn for $350, on sale today at Costco.

Hm, are the enhancements for 2 years worth the extra $200 (after tax)...

Eh...if you will really use the PS4 I'd want the pro. If you may use it casually just stay with the normal console. Normal PS4 does HDR @ 1080p

Xbox one X does 4k and is about 50% faster than PS4 Pro. It's a bit more expensive though.

No offense but the OP never asked about Xbox.

No, but it's helpful to mention as an idea in case I hadn't considered it.

It is of a bit of interest, but I have all playstation games and don't play console much so hard to justify the cost, but the xbox is a bit tempting given it includes a 4k player.

That's a factor for the PS4 pro issue also - how much I'd use it.

Probably better to wait for the PS5.

Oh, I'm sorry. It's a secret?

Never mind OP, there is no such thing as Xbox One X and if it were to exist, it certainly wouldn't support the resolution of your new TV.

Yeah cause that’s what I mean. Sometimes I think people make up their own topics instead of answering the original question and that’s what I was getting at.

As I said if you are only casual don’t spend the money. All the good Xbox games are on PC anyway. At least on the PS4 you will get the uncharted games, horizon, god of war etc.

Neither is as good as an Apple TV 4k or an Nvidia Shield for media consumption.

That's not the equation. I would prefer more power, 4k, and HDR.

The question is whether it's worth $200 to get them for 2 years until the PS5.
It's not up to us what $200 is worth to you. Only you can make that decision. There is nothing confirmed about PS5 either it's all rumors and speculation.

Since you have bought a new PS4 in 2015 and never used it or even taken it out of the box chances are if you get a PS4/pro it will sit in the box unused until the PS5 comes out in 2019 ;-)

There's a difference. After I got the PS4, my tv broke, and I switched to PC and stopped using a console, taking a break from tv. But now, I'm replacing the broken set -- still hate seeing a possibly repairable 65" TV sent off to recycling. Though ya, I'm quite a casual user of console games, a factor in whether this upgrade is worth it. But I ordered it. These damn sales.

well. as the ;-) denotes in my message i was just teasing. For the record i also am a PC gamer and i did have a PS4 that i replaced(with the pro) a few months after the pro came out. I mainly use the ps4 now just for the exclusives. The Uncharted series. The Last of Us remastered. And Horizon Zero Dawn my 3 favourites.

i even tried to go full on PS4 pro gaming for a while. but missed pc gaming. So on Dec 02 i bought the parts to build a new pc gamer rig. MSI Z370 Gamer M5. MSI GTX1070ti. i7-8700k. 16g Corsair 3200mhz ram. BenQ 32in PD3200Q 2k 2560x1440 monitor.

Have fun with the new PC. I got a 34" 1440p monitor I probably shouldn't have in July, and ya, it's still in the box. But soon. Horizon Zero Dawn came with the PS4 Pro in the bundle (otherwise I could have saved 5% from Amazon, but I like not buying from Amazon anyway) and the reviews sold me on it. Uncharted hasn't been a favorite (PS3), seemed like a lot of gratuitous action scenes.

Never opened it? Sell it and barrow a PS4 from a friend, then rent the games at RedBox. Sounds like you got plenty of options to continue playing games.
