Deciding on another vehicle. Nissan 350Z is nice but is it worth it?

I am in the market for another vehicle. Would like to stay under 10k. Like someone else observed the used car market is very over priced to a price point of around 10k. Lots of junk going for 7-8k which should be 3k-4k price range. Going up in price you can get deals but is expensive. (To me anyway)

Looking at small SUV or perhaps my dream car, Nissan 350Z. I see some real nice ones for around 15k. Yet it seems impractical even for a single man. Maybe even more impractical for a man who wants to get a relationship and so many women out there have kids.

Is a 350z worth the cost?

If you want practical and fun, there's no way around a hot hatch.

Potential candidates are all German: Z3 breadwagon (in a limited fashion), 1 series, and the omnipresent GTI/S3 or the Mini Cooper S/JCW.

On the other hand, living with a coupe isn't that bad, unless you regularly need a big trunk, or ferry people around. So, unless you're into snowboarding, downhill cycling or parachuting, where you regularly face some really bulky loads, that need to be transported by your car (and don't have a friend whom you can compensate for taking you along), the 350Z should be able to satisfy your needs.

If a women has kids, she'll have a car to accommodate them. You can still sell the car, if you find yourself taking on someone else's luggage. Do make sure you take your doubts along to test drives, so you don't buy the first car you fall in love with. But do go out and look closely at relevant deals, going for a test drive when you find something interesting.

Certainly will be cautious. A lot of the 350Z's have been dogged out by street racers and kids. Have to avoid those.

The Mazda CX-7 is kind of nice and sleek for a cross over, turbo 4 has some power.

Trying to get something that has a warrenty on it even if after market 2yr/24 warrenty just in case a engine or tranny blows.

A 350 shouldn't be that hard to find and maintain. I mean, there are tons of them out there. And the aftermarket was / is pretty big.

For $15K - I'd get a quality 70-90K mile Corvette C5 - price in October should drop 20% from today's price as the C7 goes on sale in Aug/Sept.

Stick with Mazda and keep the same engine that's in your CX7: Mazdaspeed3!

Why are you getting a second vehicle?
Why is a 350Z your dream vehicle?
Is your budget fixed at 10k-15k?

I had one for a week as a loaner (one of the earlier years of production...around 2005 or so) and it was a punishing vehicle to drive. Hard, unforgiving, and cramped. It felt heavy and was very loud at typical highway speeds. I understand that it's a sports car, but I'm sure there are others that are more refined.

Take one for a 20 or 30 minute test drive and see what you think.

I'm not sure why it hasn't been suggested yet, but you could probably pick up an infiniti g35 sedan around the 10-15k price point. It has 4 doors and is pretty similar to the 350z.

I owned a 350z, currently own a 370z. It is somewhat impractical, but not horrible. It can obviously carry one girl, no kids though. Sorry. As far as storage goes, the trunk really isn't THAT bad.

As far as fun. They are REALLY fun cars. They handle really well, are plenty fast and look great. Look at the year 350z you get though. There were some upgrades made to the later year engines, versus the early models.
