Deciding on a new vehicle

So, I'm at a crossroads. On one hand, I want a truck, specifically a 90s Silverado Z71 with the 5.7. On another hand, I've recently been thinking about how much I'll probably miss driving my Mustang, just because it is a 5 speed and pretty fun to drive around in. I've looked at getting another, got my eye on a 94' GT convertible for a decent price. I'd sell my current Mustang (96' base) after getting it checked out at a shop. Regardless, I'm not sure what is the best course of action here.

On one hand, I want the truck. I've been looking at them for a good few months now, and have browsed through hundreds of trucks. Problem is if I find a good one, it is usually gone in a few days. I'm pretty picky about the color and options and everything, which is why I've spent a lot of time looking. On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd have as much fun with an automatic, albeit it still having a nice engine and being pretty fun to drive and the ability to go off-road in it. My situation is that I don't have any real reason for a truck - I just really like the 90s Chevys, and like the size of a truck (I'm a big guy).

I'm not sure which would be the better one to get. Or if it would it be feasible to get both?

For reference, Mustang is listed at $3700 on CL, trucks I'm looking at anywhere from $4500 - $7000.

Have you looked at gas prices recently? That alone should put you off the truck if not both of those vehicles.

Should have been obvious by the OP, but I don't care about gas prices tbh. I get 14 mpg average in my V6 Stang now with CEL on, and it doesn't bother me a bit. I have no bills except insurance currently, and I'm attending community college so no huge bills there either. Gas is something I'll have to pay for regardless, so I'd rather have fun in my vehicle than have something lame like a Prius.

As for the truck part, well, I just like trucks for one thing. As I mentioned, I'm a large guy so a truck makes sense to me as another option would be an SUV which would be a Tahoe for me so they'd not be much different. I've gotten used to the size of my Mustang, but it still can feel cramped at times.

So you have a V6 Mustang and are looking to go to either a V8 Mustang or a truck, despite the fact you "don't have any real reason for a truck".

Since you don't care about gas - V8 Mustang wins...

If you want a truck, get a truck. This forum has a bias against people driving what they want to drive unless it's a go fast car, a german import or an optioned out econobox that isn't a corolla. Chevy makes great trucks, you should buy one if it's what you're comfortable driving. Any truck will be better off road than a Mustang, if you plan on any off road driving at all you have a reason to buy a truck instead of a car.
