I'm looking to buy a laptop soon but I don't know too much about them since I've been a desktop guy up till now.

I've heard some people say that the Dell's and Gateway's are ok but their build quality isn't all that great.

I've also heard people say that IBM is the "Mercedes" of laptops.

I'm looking to spend $2000 max.
Since I was a desktop guy I'd like to have a pretty powerful laptop...portability isn't a big issue.

When looking at the Fujitsu laptops the N5000 series have a "Crystal View Screen" and the N3000 series has a "MVA" screen.
For the MVA, they have a comparable visual illustration (it's almost like a CRT) but they don't have anything for the "Crystal View"...does anyone know the what the Crystal View is like?

make sure you get some laptop with a good warranty. I have an IBM T41 now, just got it and love it. I had a Compaq Evo N600c and that was a great laptop too, but I gave that to my gf. The good thing about those laptops is that they both have 3 year business warranties, which mean that if you mail your laptop in for repair, you don't have to wait 2 weeks to get it back. I remember one time I had a problem with the keyboard on the compaq and the issue was resolved in less than a week with me sending the laptop to them, them fixing it and giving it back to me. Even the best laptops still need repair too, but I went with IBM this time because of the great keyboard and build quality which is pretty good.

On the fujitsu
The crystal View AFAIK is the same as the MVA
Don't know if you have seen them in person but they are gorgeous I had a N3010 with the MVA (just turned out to be not as portable as I wanted in a notebook) but the screen is delicious.

Also, Sony has a technology called "Xbritye" which is quite impressive, really looks like a CRT screen, VERY bright and clear. But it has some glare. Be sure to check it out before making a decision.

How do you like the Fujitsu?

I'm considering either the N5000 or N3000.

I no longer have the Machine casue it just isn't as portable as I wanted.
but while I had it I really liked it,
Fujitsu makes very good notebooks I think. If IBM is out of your price range or just don't like them
then I would highly recommend Fujitsu IMO I like IBM 1st then fujitsu 2nd
Heck Voodoo pc used to sell fujitsu's as their notebook line.
