Assuming you're going to be an out-of-state student, I hope you're getting some type of scholarship, as you'll be paying $20-30k for the UCs, and 40k+ for the private schools, per year.

UC Irvine is a very clean, heavily asian, suburban campus with lots of chinese/japanese/korean food and lots of cute asian girls.

UT Austin has a very good engineering program, really cute girls as well (both caucasian and asian).

UC Davis has really hot white girls but very few of the other varieties.

from my experience, girls in Boston just don't do it for me.

texas has the strongest business program, and they had one of the cheapest tuition though it has risen since i left... UNC might win here for value
 
Talk to the admissions people and see what it really costs. At many private schools almost every financially deserving students get loans. That means 40k on paper may be 10-20k in reality. Where as 15k at one place might really mean 15k. For instance, the number 1 and number 2students from my class. One paid 15K at a public school and got dicked on scholarships since they didn't weigh PSEO classes at the time (like a B in college Calc I, II, III, DiffEQ was equivalent to a B in highschool math for retards). The other went to MIT which is 30-40k on paper, but almost everyone there gets 10-15k private scholarships. So in the long run they pay the same. It mostly depends on your financial status. If you're family makes under 100,000 you're probably good to go. But the only way to know for sure is to call and ask.
 
The UC's don't have a real business major with the exception of Berkeley. At Irvine, you'd have to take Business Economics, and at Davis it would be Managerial Econonmics, which are not business admin. degrees; they're Econ degrees with some "applied" classes. But umm, yeah, lots of loose liberal women at Davis (almost as many asians as Irvine though).

Do you know anything about these schools? Irvine is great for computer science majors, etc. Davis is great for engineering/science degrees.

I go to Davis and I'm unsure as to how your education would be for business, but the atmosphere is very welcoming and nice. It's not that hard to meet people and when spring hits, the girls in dresses are to die for 🙂

To answer the rest of the OP's questions, transportation in Davis is great. Most people either ride bikes (Davis is the bicycle capital of the US) or take the bus. You certainly don't need a car in the city, but it's nice to have if you want to get out of town. It's a small town though, so the weekend activities pretty much consist of going to parties. It's about a 15-minute drive to Sacramento and an hour to the East Bay. I've actually made it to Berkeley in 45 minutes, but I was going at least 80 (on the 80 no less) the whole way.

The student body is between 40-45% Asian, but that's the same at all of the better UC's. Student life is good and the school has a sense of community that I think is only matched by Berkeley and UCLA. There's lots of different stuff available, so you can get involved as much or as little as you want to. Like any other large university, you have to find your niche.

Comparatively, UC Irvine is sort of a commuter school and doesn't have the community feel that Davis does. Personally, I don't think there's much reason to go there if you don't live in the area to begin with.

UT's got a pretty good undergrad business program and Austin is a great city to be in.

i would never even consider any of the cali schools for business, those have always seemed more hard-science focused to me.

I think you best bets in terms of college atmosphere and quality education would be boston college -> georgetown -> UNC -> texas

depending on your weather preferences, that could vary for you.
 
Meh, it's undergrad...doesn't really matter.

Go where you feel most comfortable (diverse academic, lifestyle, etc). School choice really only matters for post-grad degrees, and then it's specific programs and not so much the actual schools.

Though, if I had to do it over again, I would go further from home
 
however, I'm biased, but I can say that UNC's rep out-of-state is extremely undeserved. I can't think of a program that's easier to get through in terms of undergrad...they graduate some 90% of their students. Bear in mind that the competition to get into UNC for an NC native is quite small, as they accept just about anyone.

This makes it very tough for people out of state to get in--which is pathetic, considering that many of the people coming in from NC have gone through one of the worst education systems in the country. There are a few parts of NC that are great for public education, but UNC attracts a lot of "top" students from the vast rural areas of the state, many of which are responsible for bringing NC's public education ranking to ~48 out of 50 in the country.

so yeah...it's overpriced, and more reputation than education. Fine for grad school, of course...but just about anywhere is.
 
Come on. Michigan is consistently one of the highest rated business schools. UNC is a great value because it's not as expensive as most of top tier business schools, and you get a top notch business degree. If you're into International Business, going to University of South Carolina is the best value in the country. Consistently the best IB degree available, and it's cheap compared to any other top business school.
