After researching things out here and there for the last few days I think I've finally made my decision on the main components of my new computer. Here they are:

From Monarch Computer Systems:
Asus A8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 90nm (939) with Thermaltake A1838 heatsink/fan
Corsair DDR400 512 MB (two sticks for 1gig)
assembled and tested for $455 plus $12 shipping

From Newegg.com
ANTEC Black Performance Series II SOHO File Server Tower ATX Case with 400W Power Supply, Model "SX1040BII"
Leadtek nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "A400 TDH" -RETAIL
Seagate 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model ST3120026A, OEM
ENERMAX Thermal Control 80mm Case fan, Model "UC-001B-TC" -RETAIL

Also thinking about this monitor:
SAMSUNG SyncMaster 710T-Black 17" LCD Monitor -RETAIL

Haven't decided on a CD/DVD burner yet but wanted to see what you guys thought about this setup.

Add a NEC DVD burner, and you look good to go.

An Antec case with 120mm fan(s) instead of 80mm fans will be quiter.

nice system so far. I guess you're gonna OC the proc and video card, right?

Agree with the NEC burner suggestion too.

Yeah 120 would be quiter but I don't think that model can take 120's and I'm really set on that case.

Yes I plan to try to overclock some (hopefully be able to get at least 2.4ghz out of it). Are NEC burners pretty good then? How about this one: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=27-152-035&depa=1

Oh and will the 400W Antec power supply that comes with that case be enough juice for me? I will be running just one CD drive, two hard drives, and three case fans.

For not much more than that SX1040BII, you can get an Antec Plus1080AMG, which includes a better PSU (True430). You could probably get by with the SL400, though.

Yeah, the NEC DVD burners are probably some of the best for the money. I just bought a 3520A (what you linked) last week for my new system based on comments and reviews of these forums.

That should be plenty...
