Get a gorilla, now that would be cool. You can keep it in a cage no bigger than it's own body, that way it will only take up a mere corner of a room.

I have always liked iguanas. They are pretty energetic and hard to keep track of when they are young, but when they get older they chill out and lay around alot. pretty coool animals.

I know it's not on your list, but you may want to consider a Sugar Glider. I've never had one, but always liked them. I think someone on ATOT owns some, but I can't remember who.

Aquariams are really nice. I used to have one. Get a good one with particular fish and it doesn't take that much upkeep.
...

Or I could just add the comment. Get a girlfriend. ;) They require more money and upkeep, but they are funner to be around. :p ;)

**EDIT**
Ewwww... sugar gliders are loads of fun.

Those look cool, but my cat would probably eat them. :(

I'd go with the saltwater tank - make it a reef tank if you want a challenge. Saltwater fish are also some of the longest living fish - it's not uncommon for some to live 20 or 30 years depending on the fish and environment.
