CLIFFS AT BOTTOM
I got an on-campus job and thus will be staying at college for the summer.
I went to the apartment where I wanted to live with a friend. I asked them about pricing and all that, and they said it was $375 a month. I ask them the move out and move in dates, and they are about 2.5 months apart. I asked how much the last month would be since I won't be there the whole month. They said it's still $375, and then told me the price is 3 installments of $375 instead of $375.
Not that big of a deal because I knew they were full of BS before then. But since I'm moving in early and it comes out to almost 3 full months of living there, I asked if it would still be 3 installments of $375. The lady tells me yes. Later I ask again and now it's prorated to $12.50 extra for each day ahead of the original move in date that I move in.
Do you think it's right for them to advertise $375 a month when it really means installment fees? Before I signed the lease, I actually got the truth, but I was still thinking about how deceptive they are.
Are there any repercussions to this law, or are apartment managements still allowed to rape customers?
The ladies working there are full of BS.
--First I ask if they are able to 3 month leases for the summer. She says no. She says the only way they do subleases are if you find someone offering to sublease through the Battalion (school newspaper) or apartment finder (not sure what that is).
After walking outside and calling my friend that already lives there, he says there is a sublease list where you could contact people interested in subleasing.
--I ask to get on sublease list, so I can take over someone's sublease. At first she claims there is no sublease list, and then she says the sublease list is only for residents. (Are residents attempting to sublease to no one??)
After that I left and my friend told me he'd go talk to a different guy for me the next day.
I'm thinking I should of just found a different place to live even if it means living with random people. Apartment management is so dumb around here. I'm only living here for 2.5 months, which is really 2.5 months in apartment time! Hopefully they won't fsck stuff up too much.
Also, when signing the lease, it didn't mention anything about capping bandwidth for the internet access that comes with the apartment. My friend that already lives there believes that they cap the bandwidth. If they do cap bandwidth, is something I should call them out on?
Edit-
I called them today to see if I was able to move in since one of the roommates moved out last Sunday. They told me I could move anytime after he leaves, but I was just making sure. They told me if I moved in right after he left, I'd have to clean the room myself, which is fine, or I could wait several days for the apartment people to clean. Since he moved out last Sunday, and I won't be moving in until this Sunday, I thought they would have cleaned it. Now they are telling me that if I move in before the original move in date, it won't be cleaned.
Next time I'm finding an apartment, I'm going to record and write down everything they say!
CLIFFS-
Apartment management says it's $375 a month.
I asked how much I'd pay for staying there 2.5 months (length of the lease not in my hands) plus moving in a week early.
Now Apartment management says it's 3 installments of $375 plus $12.5 for each day I move in ahead of time.
