Decent sound card for x64?

I need to find a soundcard that can be confirmed to work WELL in x64. I just returned an Audigy 2 value because either the drivers we so bad that it caused lockups or slowdowns on most if not all my games, or it wasn't compatible w/ my system for whatever reason.

Can anyone make a suggestion to help me out, or does anyone have any experience with any that they know work well with x64?

The problem may not be with the sound card but with running 32 bit games on a 64 bit operating system. Other people have had the same problem with sound from games when running XP 64 bit. You are not the only one and only fix that I have seen was to load XP 32 bit operating system for the games. The games are written to run 32 bit. Look for a patch for the games. I do not know of any games out that are written for use with XP 64. Most game compatiablity problems show up with the sound as the first thing and then go on with lockups and being kicked out of game. It is the same type of thing that happened with 16 bit games running on a 32 bit operating system.

Well it's not a problem with the games, because when running the onboard sound on a Lanparty UT SLI-D, the games fly and never lock up. I installed the Audigy 2 and Quake 4 went from a constant 60fps to dropping into the 40s and extremely choppy on the same settings and Black & White 2 Locked up 9 out of 10 tries to lauch. Pulled the Audigy and turned the onboard back on. Everything was normal again. I'd be content with the onboard if the front speaker jack didn't bite the dust, and I don't feel like RMA'ing the board and being without a pc for 1-2 weeks because of a stupid sound issue.

WOW that's a HUGE list :frown:

Well I put my old Audigy Platinum in since I got another power adapter for it, and everything seems to run alright except Black & White 2 now. Although it doesn't lock up on loading anymore, it seems to randomly lock up after about an hour of play, which is a huge problem for a game that has no autosave 🙁

I'm guessing it's a bug in the game for x64 but of course they don't support so they don't really care.

Well after doing some testing last night, I discovered that I wasn't a sound issue after all. It seems that if I set B&W 2 to only run on the primary core of X2 processor, I get no lockups. I successfully played for over 2 hours with no hitches at all. So my sound works well now and my game runs well too 🙂
