Decent Socket A motherboard for crackrack

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but I'll go out on a limb and post it anyway.

It's an ECS K7VZA. Keep in mind that there's two versions, the v1.x has a KT133 chipset, and the v3.x with a KT133A which is the one I'm talking about. It supports either a 100 or 133MHz FSB, nothing higher. It has no multiplier, core voltage, or VIO settings on the board or in the BIOS.

ATX
5 PCI/1 AGP 4X/1 AMR
3 DIMMs
Ultra DMA 100
Onboard RealTek sound
ECS site says "Can support the future 1.5GHz Thunderbird"

Here's a review at OCworkbench.
Manufacturer's site link.

I found this board selling for $62.00 at PCBoost, plus $14.85 Fedex ground shipping (also 7.5% tax if you're in CA). PCBoost gets a 5.4 out of 7 at ResellerRatings.

Hope this isn't old news and helps someone out.

Not a bad price on that board, although at that same place they have the Abit KT7E for $88. An extra $26 for a board that has tons of overclocking options. Helps squeeze out every last WU, or RC5 block, or node, or whatever. 🙂

I also had this board mentioned to me. While it seems to be suited for a crack rack or a low cost second PC, it still has lots of overclocking features. Unfortunately I haven't found anyone in the US that sells this board yet so I don't know how much it'll cost. I'm assuming less than $100, probably around $80. 🙂

How about the Epox KL133 based board? It has a ton of FSB settings and supports either 100 or 133 MHz memory. Includes on board sound and video (Savage 3D). All for $73 at www.mwave.com. I have this for my wife's machine - its my best RC5 cracker at home. Too bad they couldn't integrate a NIC as well.

I emailed Jetway to see if they have their AT-based socket A board (model 849BS) available in the U.S. They emailed me back saying that it probably wouldn't make it to the U.S. It's too bad they will not sell it, it would have been a perfect upgrade for old AT systems. It has bios FSB adjustments and on-board sound.
