Decent rewards credit card?

So right now I just have a VISA through my Credit Union. Its ok, but I'd like to get some kind of rewards card (cash back maybe). What would be a good choice?

I don't spend that much, maybe ~200 a month on odds and ends (gas, food, electronics), with bigger purchases sprinkled around.

Thanks.

Link to a list of some student cards you can compare. There are a couple rewards cards listed including: Citi Dividend Platinum Select and Capital One No Hassle Cash Rewards. Definitely read through the info though and find the one that meets your needs.

I want to make sure I choose a good company. Seems like Citi and Chase have plenty of bad reviews although there are a couple of cards from each that look interesting. Should I take these into account?

i got in on a deal for the chase card where they gave $250 in rewards on the first use. plus it gives 3% back on groceries, gas, and fast food which was and still is pretty much all of my credit card spending.

My American Express Blue gives me:
1.5% cash back on all purchases
5% cash back on gas, grocery, and drug stores

but.. you have to spend $6,500 first otherwise it's 1% and .5% back.

I like American Express because they always have your back

Anytime I have ever made a late payment or had other problems Citi has refunded my fees. Customer service is really good.

I really like the Chase Freedom card. Chase is a great bank, and their credit card services are excellent. It's 1%/3% cash back on certain purchases (gas, etc.), and since it's Visa it's accepted EVERYWHERE, unlike other credit cards. I like not having to switch out cards for vendors that only accept Visa.

I have never had a problem with Chase. I don't know how they can have a bad review; they have great credit cards and great customer service. Furthermore, if you use them for checking, all of the tellers I've met were super hot. Sadly, I moved to CA for grad school (no Chase banks), and the BofA by me only seems to hire mean old women :(

truth

5% gas
1.25% everything else

if u only can have 1 card, this is best.

if u can get a 2nd card, then i could recommend:
5% gas/drug store/supermarket card (shoot, forgot which card this is :Q but not the $6500 amex)
HSBC's 2% mastercard

and if u have costco membership, then obviously:
costco amex (free w/membership): 3% restaurants

edit:
of course we're assuming you'll be paying off the credit card every month. else dont even both w/rewards cards.

he only spends $200/month.

for this chase card, u have to accumulate $200 in rewards then they give you $50 bonus for $250.

$200 at 1% means spending $20000 :Q

100 months = 8yrs :Q

Edit:
wait... $250 for 1st use?! what card is this? LINK!!!!!

at $200/month spending, OP will NEVER reach $6500/yr.

I use the Choice Privileges card. You get two points per dollar spent towards hotel stays. A typical hotel stay is 8,000-12,000 points. Although if you only spend $200 a month you won't get much of anything for rewards no matter what card you get. For me, I get about 5-6 free hotels stays each year so it works great for my family.

True. Its partly because my other card is my first one and its limit is a bit small. So I figured instead of asking for a higher limit, I'll just get a new card that at least has some advantages. I always pay my card off in full though.

OP, if you're good about it, might as well get more than 1.
While in college I had these two:
The MTVu Citi card - great for students especially if you eat out often.
The Chase Freedom card - also good for gas, groceries and a few other things. The $250 signup bonus is long gone. It appeared twice and has been at $50 for awhile now.

Costco Amex is good too - but it sounds like you're not a member (your parents are - I think you need to have a card under your name).
