Are there any retail stores that don't suck incredibly to work at? I know retail sucks, but does anyone here have experience at some retail chain that didn't suck so much you didn't want to quit right away? I'm not sure such a place exists, but I would love to know if any of you have worked in a retail store that was halfway decent.

Aside from really crappy pay, Toys R' Us wasn't bad to work at. You didn't have to push any lame extended warranties, so that's a plus.

IMO, it's not so much the retail chain itself that makes a place good or bad to work at, it's all about the managers.

I worked for 4 years at an Office Depot store. About 100000x better than some other retail, based on the horror stories I hear about working at Best Buy, CompUSA, etc. You're going to have the same customers (typically) no matter where you go in retail, so management is what counts. I always found it pretty easy-going at OD, no high-pressure warranty pushes, or anything else that'd make you go nuts the first week.

yeah I agree with mikebb. Walk into a store and you can usually tell how tight the management is. At BB i had people constantly trying to sell me warrenties and stuff, while everytime I go to officemax i have 10 minute conversations with the cashiers about hot deals and stuff.

Then again, the workers at my local staples are pretty cool. Too bad their managers are Nazi's

I think it really depends on each location's management.
