With a $200 budget you have quite a selection, just pick something you like.

I ended up getting polarized a-wires.

Cost me almost exactly $200.

Walk into Sunglass Hut, try on everything that you like, pick something. $200 will limit you to about 4/5 of their selection, for $250 you can get some Maui Jim titanium wire glasses. Those are sweet, but I didn't want to spend that much so I got a pair of Raybans (the ones with the thick black ear pieces) for $120.

I'm a sunglass newbie, but how can you guys justify spending 200 dollars on a piece of plastic/lens? I'd understand for prescription glasses, but dayamn, non prescription shades?!

because they actually keep uv rays, and other harmful things off ur eyes, oakleys are the pinnacle of sunglases (well the low end pinnacle id assume)

I have both Oakleys and Gargoyles. I prefer my Oakley A-Wires for everyday use, while my Dale Earnhardt signature classics (has his sig and the date of his Daytona 500 win and only 4000 made) for occasional wear. The Gargoyles were $200 even while the Oakleys were only $160.

i like natives they cost about 99-115 everything they make is polarized and has a lifetime warranty. even if the damage is your fault. my buddy left his out and his dog chewed it to crap and they replaced it in about a week. even covers scrached lenses. link

It's been proven that any halfway decent sunglasses will have as good protection as some $300 pair of Oakleys. People buy expensive sunglasses for the same reason they buy Rolex's. Status symbol.

I have a pair of cheap Calvin Klein ones that I think are pretty good. Good clarity and I get double protection since I wear Acuvues as well.

I second these guys. I have a set of asphalt colored dashes. They come with 3 sets of lenses, which works out great for my mountain biking ... I use the polarized lenses most of the time, then when we go biking I use the lower light lenses (orage/yellow) ... awesome.

I've also heard about them replacing stuff that YOU broke. There's a testimonial about a biker who wiped out and they replaced his. One of the nose pads on mine is coming off, so I'm going to send them in when it falls off (might take a while for it to fall off) ...

Two thumbs up :) ... oh, they're only about $110 too ...

go to an eyeglass place, that sell prescription glasses.

they have very high quality stuff.

Corning makes Photo-gray self darkening lenses, very nice

i have used photo gray prescription glasses since 1973 or 1974

beats having to take off/put on seperate glasses for inside outside, and if not real bright they are not super dark.

Knowing and Selling Polarized Lenses

Understanding polarized lens products, their features and benefits, as well as the needs of your patients, are the basic ingredients of a successful sale.

By Beverly E. Heishman, ABOM, NCLC-AC, AASc

Awesome! Thank you for recommending these lenses to me. They?re great!"

If you are dispensing polarized lenses you?ve probably heard that and other accolades from your patients. Nevertheless, it?s still very common to find dispensers and doctors who are uncomfortable with recommending or presenting products with higher price tags, including polarized lenses. This is usually due to a range of variables that relate to selling skills. Selling is what we do to compete and survive in the optical field regardless of where we practice.

Which is why I quit spending that much on sunglasses before some of you guys were born!
Remember the Varnet craze of the 80's?

Typical! :p

I'd shoot for ground optical polarized glass with UV-400 protection for as cheap as I could find 'em. Probably about $75.00 or so.

My prescriptin polarized glass cost $75.00 for the lens alone.
