Hey guys, would you be able to help a fellow out? I know I'm new here. I'm one of those stalk on message boards type guys looking for answers. I haven't been part of any online community for a really long time now so don't hold it against me :)

I read this sweet OC guide : http://forums.anandtech.com/me...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

I used it to do my first real attempt at overclocking.. it worked out really well too! At the same time though I'm having this very weird issue that even after hours and hours of priming and or memtesting stable with no errors (15+) if I try to restart the computer or shut it down, the computer will not post (no beeps, bios, nothing). All of the fans spin and everything, it's just that there is no beep and there is no signal from the computer, etc, you know how it is.

My specs are the following:
Neo2 Platinum
Antec 430W Truepower (26a 12v)
Venice 3800
OCZ 2gb platinum (not great for ocing, but they manage if the divider is dropped)
other relevantish specs - vid card agp sapphire x1950 pro 512mb
sb live
1, sometimes 2 hds
1 dvd burner which i never use
XP-90C Heatsink with 78CFM 92mm fan

I can memtest and prime for 15+ hours (thats all i tested for) stable with no errors on this overclock
The oc was achieved by dropping the memory divider to 166, running stock timings (2.5-3-2-5, 1T). Put up the Vcore to 1.475 and 1.5, both were equally stable and neither got hot. On stock my xp-90c keeps my cpu idle at 30 and full load to never over 50 - usually 49 max. Temperatures didn't change after adding the voltage at all. Maybe 1 degree. It should be noted that I didn't see 1.475 or 1.5v in Core Center which is MSI's cpu utility. It looked almost as if no voltage had been added - I can double check this. Not an issue to me at the moment since I primed for hours and hours as well as memtested all with no errors.

So after letting it go all night and half the day stable I felt the oc was stable. It is stable. If those programs test for stability, then it's stable. Never locked up or anything.

So I went to shut down or restart at one point. Every time (pretty much) I shut down this computer, it doesn't give me a beep. I have to reset via the battery. After a restart I usually have to ease into the OC (the way I originally found the OC.) First I'll drop the divider to 166 and put it to 1T and set the timings, add the voltage, set the FSB to 240x11 - Restart. Gives me a beep, I enter bios again and jack the FSB up to 255x11 and it boots windows like nothing ever happened. /\This is some whack behaviour.

oh yeah i always put my ram to 2.8v cause thats the highest they're allowed to do without warranty failure.. thought i should mention this as well.

I'm so desperate, I like being able to restart and or turn my computer off. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.

Hmm...FYI, if the Platinum has the same warranty as the Platinum Rev.2, they're only warrantied for 2.2v+/-5%, or 2.31v extreme max.

Anyway...regarding the not-starting-up issue. I had the exact same thing happen. It would get to a particular OC, start up and run everything I could throw at it. Restarted to push it some more and it wouldn't post...or beep for that matter. To make sure it wasn't a fluke, I set all settings back the way they were, ran all benches again and restarted. Same issue. Bumped Vcore one notch (.02v) and tried again. This time it restarted. Bump Vcore by a hair and see if it helps.

Someone else put it in the form of an analogy. Picture your PC as a car. If a car is sitting and you need to push-start it, it's a lot harder to begin moving the car than it is to keep it going after you've got the initial momentum.

So, with this analogy, setting the OC in BIOS and getting it to start Windows is like having the car already moving. Restarting altogether, the car is stopped and the CPU has to get it going again....and that's the most simplified explanation ever...but works for me and is applicable in this situation.

about the ram (http://www.ocztechnology.com/p...dual_channel_platinum)

its ddr 1 ram
maximum warranty voltage is 2.8v... hehe
so youre wrong about that.

BUT as i have found around the net after more looking and a lead from another site (xtreme systems), neo2 platinum undervolts the cpu. i just figured the reporting was incorrect in windows and such. but then i searched more and found that the neo2 does in fact under volt. i increased the voltage of the cpu by 5% and setting it to 1.4v default so then it worked!

cold boots, and restarts :) im happy!

thanks you were right way to go champ :D lol i appreciate that. im surprised that was solved so quickly. ill come back if it dies again lol

thanks buddy
