I'm tired of cleaning my mouse interior rollers to keep the mouse working well, especiall it is a problem in gaming. I'd like to buy a modestly priced optical mouse to hopefully avoid the cleaning issue and get reliable operation.

So far the Microsoft Basic Optical looks and feels decent - I think it has a wirelss version too, but I don't really want to have to deal with batteries going dead at an inopportune time. Suggestions?

I really like my Logitech MX310 wired optical mouse. It's got 6 buttons and uses the same optical technology as the other MX wireless mice.

I grew up with the original Logitech 3 button Mouseman, and I still prefer the smaller, light mice like the MX310 versus the larger, heavier wireless mice.

Wireless is fine, but only if you choose a mouse specifically meant for gaming. I always thought the differences in wireless mice was just crap...but then I bought a new Microsoft mouse for notebooks...wow that was laggy.

My Mx1000 = awesome. Whether you can find a good wireless mouse for cheap is another story. It goes about 4 days without charging it...so when I'm a dumbarse and forget to charge it it is still okay. Just plop it on the charger before you goto bed.

I don't like wireless, they tend to be too heavy for my tastes and you have to deal with batteries and stuff. If you buy a high end one, you won't have to deal with lag. If you want a good gaming mouse, you can probably find an MX510 off ebay or something for around $20-30.

Quite often you'll find Logitech MX500's or MX510's for cheap prices, since they're now outdated models. Should be great mice. For wireless, I wouldn't buy any "reasonably priced" ones because the good ones are all relatively expensive.
