Decent mid/high range card?

I'm looking for a good bang:buck card to play Mortal Online on. It uses Unreal3 engine.

Right now I have a 9600GSO. Can anyone recommend something decent in the $100-$200 range?

From the sense that DX11 is irrelevant on a low end card and these are both slower and more expensive than the 4870 they replaced, not a great deal.

From the sense that you can't buy anything better for the same money now, yes, it's a great price.

If you have a local microcenter might want to check them for $125 4870s (20% off all computer components). Otherwise, a GT250 for $100 is another possibility.

Problem is there IS no midrange card. There are low end cards (including the 5770), and high end cards (58xx) and the gulf between them is vast.

That one looks good. Is that a good deal?

Yes its a great deal and a good card.

It will overclock easily to 950 core,1350 mem matching or exceeding 4870 speeds.

edit: It should play that Mortal online game with all high settings.

Recommended configuration (1680×1050)
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
RAM: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR2
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or equivalent
Video memory: 512MB
Hard drive space: 30GB

unless you're in the beta, keep waiting until the game is released?

edit: found out it's in open beta stage. judging by the screenshots, I'd be pissed if a 5770 couldn't play it well.

Hmm, those are pretty hefty requirements for 1680x1050. What resolution will you be playing on? If it's 19x12 or higher and you need smooth performance at all times (I'm going by recommended PC specs being woefully inadequate for all other MMOs I've ever played once you start raiding) I will have to retract my recommendation of GT250 and recommend a 4890 at least.

Or wait until the midrange cards from both vendors are introduced. The 5830 may be what you're looking for.

I will probably only play on 1280x1024.

In that case, try it with your 9600GSO. Depending on that you'll know roughly how much more oomph you want and buy accordingly. At such low res a 4850, 5750 or GTS250 should be enough. All three are ~$100ish cards today.

Thanks for your help 🙂
