Decent Microphone

So my cheap computer mic broke on me and I'm in the market for a new one. Nothing fancy, but definately something better than I had. Better as in, it's somewhat respected for recording sound.

Any suggestions, anyone know about the field? I'm willing to spend up to $30, give or take.

Bump. Surely someone knows a thing or two abour Mic's on this forum?

You won't get anything better than a computer mic for $30. If you can spend $50-70 you can get a decent mic, but then you'll need to spend money on a mic preamp to get the signal into your computer (any decent recording mic will have an XLR low impedance output, as opposed to the high impedance 1/8" output on your typical computer mic). Figure at the absolute minimum you'd need to spend $100.

understandable, not bad. I was afriad it'd be like that, anything under a certain price=crap, etc.

Anyways I'm listening, any recommendations? (we're talking under $100) Any names you trust or go by? Any models you might recommend?

Go on ebay and get a used Shure SM-57, and a M-Audio Audiobuddy mic preamp. Total should be around $100. You'll keep the 57 forever... it's a great workhorse mic used in many studio applications. Eventually you'll outgrow the audio buddy, but it will be enough to get you started. Don't forget to snag an XLR cable (i.e. mic cable) from somewhere. Here's more info on the audio buddy:
