Decent Mattress for cheap?

so i'm in the market for a new bed, up till this point in my life I just always used a second hand bed or bed provided in whatever place i'm staying mainly because I never really could afford a bed. well I got a new place and don't have a bed now since I sold mine when I moved in with my ex. can you get a decent queen mattress for 300ish? I don't need anything fancy just don't want to get something that will sag and wear out in a couple years. i'm a big guy (6'1 250) so that comes into play as well. I could afford more just don't want to just payed off all my debt and wasn't planning on having to buy an apartment full of furniture right now and not very liquid

I just bought a new mattress this weekend at a place that's like a bare bones subsidiary of Haverty's called Ben's. I paid $600 for a mattress/box springs that would've been like $1400 at Macy's. My parents also just got a new mattress at Costco for like $350 and it's one of those foam mattresses.

Sams Club (or similar stores) will sell a decent mattress for that price. But you won't get anything better than what you had before. If decent is good enough, then go with it.

I figure that I'll keep a mattress for 20 years. Ignoring vacations, that is 58400 hours that I'll be in it. If I'm willing to pay 1 penny more per hour for a good nights sleep, then I'm willing to pay $584 for a mattress. That amount of money will get you a nice pillowtop which you may like far better than a basic $300 mattress.

Oh and remember, you can bargain quite a lot off the top of the price of higher end mattresses (10% off easilly, 20% is doable).

I've slept on shit all my life and sleep fine. and while I would love to get a nice bed and spend $$$ I would really want to wait since i'm in a more temporary living situation. if I was married or still with my ex I would just go out and get a really nice king. don't care for pillow tops and don't beleave in them, from what i've read you can't flip them so they go bad quicker.

You have a double pillowtop. Manufacturers have been making more and more no-flip pillowtops that only have padding on one side and are convincing consumers that they are better since they don't "need" to be flipped. When I was looking for mattresses a few years ago most reasonably priced pillowtops were one sided.

Second the Costco/Sams suggestion. You get a basic Serta/whatever brand for a very good price, my sister still has mine that I bought ~8years ago.

We got our mattress from a Macy's Furniture Outlet.
They sell scratch and dent items for min. 40% off.

We got our $2800 mattress for $800. We absolutely love it.

I get any Ikea mattress. No springs, boxes or anything. They are firm and great.

ikea is like a 3 hours drive lol. but i'm still going to make it out there within the next few weeks to round out the stuff i didn't get locally. but its a bit to bulky to drive that far in a truck that gets 12miles to the galon lol (truck i'm borrowing for the move)

I bought a Lady Americana pillowtop and use it with a memory foam / egg crate topper. Still amazingly comfortable after six or seven years.

I got an Ikea As-Is cheapo for $70 many years ago because I needed something to sleep on right away and figured I'd replace it as soon as possible with something decent.

I love the thing, it's perfect for me. So much for mattress shopping.

Matress X-Press (south FL only maybe?) - "Simmons Beautyrest Plush (Special)" I think the special means whatever and it was King sized. $888 and so far worth every penny. This was the sweet spot. Every other bed didn't feel right (too cheap). We've been shopping for months now LOL. Most beds I've been on that felt right were over $1500.

Yeah, what the other guy said. In an attempt to screw you without you noticing, all of the big S manufacturers have gone to "no flip" mattresses, to save cost on putting even rudimentary padding on both sides. Of course the price is the same now as it was before. If you have one around you, Original Mattress Factory still makes flippable mattresses, they're a bunch of places on the east coast.

Mattresses are a huge racket. They charge you a huge premium for fancy pillow tops, which are basically $50-$100 mattress toppers that you can't change because they're sewn on. You're better off simply buying a mid level mattress and buying a pillow top at Marshalls. At least you're not out hundreds and hundreds of dollars to find out that you don't like the bed, and you can change it.
