What are some good hotels to stay in that are close to some of SF's prime tourist attractions?

I should add, I don't want to break the bank, yet I don't want to stay in some rundown Holiday Inn or Ramada either :)

got Hyatt Regency on Embarcadero st for $74 nite during thanksgiving a couplke of yrs ago. it's 4stars in the heart of everything. i had a great view of the bridge.

Her mom is trying to steer me towards The Chancellor. She said that they stayed there last year for their anniversary and it was wonderful.

For a flight for two from Raleigh to San Francisco and back including 4 night hotel stay, it's ringing up at around $1,350 (through Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, etc) for The Chancellor and about the same for The Warwick. Most of the other recommendations in this thread, while excellent, are pushing $2,000 or more :Q

I stayed at the sir francis drake hotel. it was nice, rooms were a little small. great location.

best bed i ever slept on at that hotel.

but seriously OP, go to hawaii or elsewhere that's tropical...

Not everyone can/wants to do a tropical honeymoon. I know we wouldn't have if my family hadn't given the airfare and hotel as a wedding present. We were dirt poor when we got married and probably would have went camping otherwise because that's all we could afford.

Why start off your marriage with a ton of debt?

That's the thing, I don't want to go broke. We're trying to put the majority of our money towards a down payment on a house (my parents have already giving us $10k). But we want to at least double that and going all out on the honeymoon isn't really an option.

I won't say never, just not so soon. Seems like you just finished school.

Sniff, they grow up so quickly.
