Decent hdtv rear projection sets > 43" and <= 55"

What are some of the best rear projection tv's with hdtv compatibility?
I know that Mitsubishi have some of the best but I was wondering how the Sony ones fare?

I was looking at the 51" Sony KP-51WS500 and it seems pretty good. Someone offered me a really good
deal on one. Anyone with experience with this model?

When they list the specs with a DVI interface, does this mean that I could hook up a dvi capable video card?
I am very interested in doing this if possible because it would allow me a better quality output.
I don't think the pins are compatible though. Do you need a converter to hook up to this port on the tv?

Mits x413 is really a gem. Avoid a sony RPTV at all costs. The just don't match up to the control and quality of a mitsubishi or hitachi.

Yes, you can use your computer and DVI on the set. No, you will not get better quality.

Check out the Samsung DLP RP sets. A bit more expensive, but burn in will never be an issue, so you can crank up the contrast and make it really bright without worry.

DVI is the new standard for hooking up HD receivers. Many TV DVI interfaces wont work with computers. You have to check the manual to see.

I'm not honestly sure about DVI compatible televisions.. but rear projection is owned by Toshiba, Hitachi and Panasonic from what I hear.

I have a Panasonic HDTV and I just love it.. fantastic picture when hooked up with component video on my matching progressive scan DVD player.... love it 🙂

Pioneer's Elite series and the Mitsubishis top the lists.

Hitachi/Toshiba would be my picks for the next two.

There are so many to choose from and so many different features.
I am rethinking the Sony set now and thinking about something different.
I should have taken the 47" Samsung when it was on clearance at less than half price.

Samsung DLPs. No question. Best bang for the buck, even if it's ~$3000. They have DVI inputs.

I'd take this for well under $3k and it has RGBHV inputs. Great to use with a vga->rgbhv cable for outputting PC display to the set (with proper Powerstrip timings...Radeon recommended). Use your PC as your DVD player and scale it up to 1080x540p 😉

I'm looking at a Pioneer SD-533HD5 53" set now and it looks like it has decent specs.
I was wondering if the Pioneer is as good as their upper end "Elite" series?
