Decent Free Web Hosting?

I realize this is a bit off topic for this forum, however, I just need a couple suggestions, and I'm sure the thread will drift away.

My friend is looking for a half decent FREE web hosting site. I'm not sure if he wants the type of place that gives you prefab pages that you insert things into, but I'd like to look at those as an option. I remember when homestead.com used to be free, that used to be a decent free solution.

Are there any others like it these days? Thanks.

I don't think "decent free web hosting" exists. Fortunately there are plenty of decent CHEAP providers.

I'm talking geocities level. I know they exist.

I'm not even sure if my buddy is going to create the pages himself and upload them, or if needs some type of built in prefab thing.

Yup. You want to be paying for your hosting to get a good deal. There are some places that are very cheap but very good but to be honest I don't know any open-to-the-public free hosting places worth a second look.

There's at least one reliable $10 per year web/email host (e-rice.net). Why put up with advertisements, spam, and likely failure of the hosting company, all for $10 per year?

Most ISPs used to give free web hosting to their customers. Don't know if they still do.
