Decent for Gaming?

An older friend of mine just got this laptop for even less than the add price.

Based on the INTEL HD video, should he be able to play SKYRIM on at least NORMAL settings?

It seems that the integrated HD 520 can handle some games at low.
Whether it can handle Skyrim at normal is something you would have to test.

I'll get crap but the Dell outlet is a good place to look for reduced cost machines. Inventory turns over fast so he needs to buy immediately if he sees something he likes.

Without know much just about any i5 processor is good for most normal games. I'd have him save a few dollars more for a decent video card something in the $100-$150 range should be good enough for most games. The Dell desktops have historically had a slot for a discrete graphics card but its not always true with the mini/small form factor Dells.

I've owned two Dell outlet machines and both worked fine for years.

I would check out Ebay or a refurbished laptop. I bought a refurbished Asus ROG(GH73Gh) six years ago and it's still working great. For games, a dedicated video card is preferred.

It can often be a good deal to get a Dell with room and a decent PSU and then add a good video card from Newegg or Amazon.

You do need to make sure it will fit and can be powered though -- a PSU might have for example only a 6-pin card power connector while the card needs 8-pin or 8 and 6.

Refurb Sandy i3 or better Thinkstation tower from Newegg with a 750 ti shoved in it.

Anything off the shelf with near the gaming power will cost twice as much.

damn, too bad. With a little patience and some of those refurb/mid range dell machines mentioned above, and a new ~470X (~$150.) to be released, hopefully, at the end of the month, he could have easily handled Skyrim.

For $230 at that time, He "could" get a 8GB 480 and be good for the next 3-4+ years of DX 12 games. (though horribly bottlenecked by CPUs, I guess) ("could" = demand + availability)

kind of cheap video card but I'd bet its better than internal. Look at the memory its one 8GB stick so you could go to 32GB if needed.
