the fax/modem card we have in our fax machine is a cheap POS. It regulalry has issues connecting to several fax numbers that the standard fax works with n/p. It drops on some incoming faxes etc etc.
So I'm shopping for new card to toss in there. Suggestions?
Don't use a card - use one of the shedloads of old, expensive, quality external modem bricks that have been obsoleting since the advent of DSL. Back when a 14400 bps fax modem cost north of $500, they were actually quite good.
I second Peter. I have several external serial modems here that are of no use to me now that I'm on DSL. I can sell you a nearly new BestData v.92 with the film still on the lens for $12.50 +shipping - all cables, wall wart and driver CD included. Works great as a fax box - can do up to 28.8 for fax I think. All you need is a standard serial (RS-232, 9-pin - not USB). Will work with any OS.
Yup, external modems are very useful. I have another external serial that I use for my fax and voice mail software. The BestData can't do voice mail, but it's da bomb on faxing.
