black on black 02 Mercedes E320 AWD
56k miles, appears to be well maintained and in great shape. Clean title.

$12500 seem like a decent price?

Seems like a decent price to me. Personally I'd stay away though, those were somewhat darker years than usual for Mercedes reliability.

Is AWD a prerequisite? Or are you looking for image or luxury?

mostly luxury. Been driving an Impala way too long.

Was looking for a G8 GT, just seems like they are overpriced at $25k for an 09 (It's a Pontiac after all). Just ran across this Mercedes and it got me thinking. I had an older Mercedes a few years back, and loved it.

Hmm. Probably best bets for decent luxury with more reliability and cheaper maintenance :

G35 Sedan, they can be found with good condition for that price..

or

4G Acura TL, also can be found around that price range. Great interior, fantastic sound system and overall fit/finish. This was the TL *after* the infamous Honda auto tranny failures. My brother's wife has one with ~150k miles and only routine maintenance.

Outliers : BMW 5-series (similar maintenance cost to Mercedes though), M35 (not very common), Legacy GT (probably not enough lux for you)

Why would you want to pay $12,500 for a 9 year old car? The G8 GT is 7 years newer, more modern amenities, likely has remaining factory warranty (standard 3yr/36k, drivetrain 5yr/100,000), you're on your own with the Merc, which isn't known for being a cheap fix, more space for all occupants and "luggage" (it's a large car if you never been in one), much better performance, and despite having 67% more HP, still gets the same highway gas mileage using regular grade while the Merc requires premium. Of course the G8 is going to cost more, it's simply a better car.

It's also not a Pontiac, it's a Holden that a plant in Australia afixed a Pontiac badge to.
