Looking for a moderately priced ($20-$30) heatsink for overclocking my Opteron 165 in an Assrock 939 dual board. Hoping to achieve 2.8GHz on air. Any suggestions or is this unrealistic?

AFAIK thermalright makes about the best heat sink's there is I'am planing to us my SLK948U if it will work when I decide to upgrade to a 165 or 170.

How does the asrock and OPTY work together?

Don't have the opty just yet. Supposed to arrive tomorrow. I had a 3200 Venice before I bought the opty and was able to push it to 2.5GHz without mucho sweat on the stock retail HSF.

Agreed and if people can pay extreme prices for water and phaze change the y not throw out a pretty penny for a nice air cooler.

Making the assumption that this is for a Socket 939 Opteron/motherboard, then the best bang-for-the-buck heatsink (excepting the retail one) is the XP-90. That being said, the Scythe Katana is the best, followed closely by the XP/SI-120. In truth, they are all within a few degrees of one another.

Seeing how the ASRock doesnt allow for very high vcore settings, you won't be able to put much to it anyway's, 1.4v maybe?. So I don't think you will need to spend more than what you are budgeting.
