I remember last year that one of the Buffalo G models was real popular as a low price but good quality router that was popular for using with DD-WRT on it. Is that still the case or are there new choices now? Preferably it would be something I could buy local, so that limits me to the few common Linksys, Belkin, Netgear, and D-Link models (sold at Walmart, Target, Staples, Circuit City, etc).

I don't quite get the DD-WRT supported hardware page. There is a large list of supported routers or not, then under that is like a secondary list that is much smaller of supported devices. So which is it?

Of course the Linksys WRT54G is sold everywhere but I can't tell the version number from the box and they are more than likely the newer models that won't support DD-WRT.

I'm not even sure I necessarily need DD-WRT, I think it might just be good to get a router that will support it if it can be found locally and is reasonably priced. I also won't be using wireless capabilities, but I'd think I should get a wireless router in case I need it in the future. I would prefer gigabit ethernet I think, again for future reasons.

So are there any routers that fit these needs?

Mote, Some devices support the full release as is. Others because of small memory, and other issues support limited releases and might have a more complicated Flash process.

The Asus and the WRT54GL are on the good side.
