So this is the layout of my house

I am thinking of getting 2 of these

Probably put these on the main floor and hope it covers the basement.

I have a MBP w/ AC and Surface 2 w/ N. Are these good ACs should I get something else?
I am thinking of placing one in the hallway by the bedrooms and one in the kitchen area.

Thoughts?

Yep one in the bathroom would probably give you decent coverage.

Though if you want to play it safe, I'd put one in family/dining area and one in one of the bedrooms.

Don't really have to worry about doing more than one floor, I'd just put them on main floor.

Basement facing up might work too, but it will just look weird, but that would be easiest.

I have a N Unifi AP in my basement facing down and it works throughout the whole house. (single story 1100sqft). Signal is a bit weak in living room so at some point I might put one in there too.

You made a good choice, it is an excellent AP. Your doing right in getting one and going from there. It is typically best to get one for each level but depending the construction one may do just fine.
