was at the CC in Westwood tonight, saw a bunch of them. Seem like a decent deal. They have a Magnavox one for 69.99, in case people like "name brands".

Didn't VCD support become too expensive for Apex to implement? I know my old 500w has it but do the new ones?

as of may of last year, apex dvd players stop playing vcd because they got sued and lost.
Although a few dvd players do slip through and many apex dvd players are hackable to some extent.
the 1201 is essentially teh same as the 1200 but with a newer remote.
the normal price is between 50$-70$ at CC

Hawk, you may want to go ahead and buy it. I have purchased 2 for my ex-wife{don't ask, we are the best of buddies now ;-) } and they both played VCD n SVCD. It doesnt say it on the box btw.I purchased 1 b4 Xmas2002 and another in Feb2003. Tried to hack them, was unable.

I think Mallow was referring to this
If this link doesn't work go to www.dvdrhelp.cpm aka vcdhelp.com and search for Apex.
Good Luck.

The thing I like about my 1200 is that you can play svcd .mpg files off of a dvd-r. All the files show up arranged in a menu. I cannot do that on my 1500.

I read off another thread that most newly manufactured Apex players can play vcd's, they just do not have the rights to say they can play vcd's. My new ad-2500 from amazon plays just about everything I put in it.

Yeah, the box doesn't say VCD, but I did hear from someone else also that they do play them, just can't advertise it. But apparently they got the lawsuit taken care of anyway. Don't know if I should get one still, have a (crappy) Sony one that doesn't play anything, and have like 5 DVD roms on various computers already! ;)
