Decent 600.

So, I'm looking for a 600. It needs to be race-style and obviously damned hot. Currently I'm leading towards the CBR-RR 600 which is pure sex on wheels. However, V-twins have caught my attention and I could be persuaded by an old style Ducati 748, although apparantly it costs a bomb to maintain the engine (dry clutch, for example).

Are there any V or L twin 600's about, as I'd have to go for 800 insurance with the 748?

Stay far far away from Ducatis...
slow.. uncomfortable... very expensive.. and the jap bikes flat out outhandle the street versions these days..
there are very few pluses to Ducs anymore unless all you care about is the name and the style..

CBR600RR is very nice..
but my faves are still
R6 any year..
or the new Kawasaki Ninja 636
CBR is very nice but it feels very gutless compared to the other 600s..
the R6 has ALOT of punch as does the GSXR and the Ninjas...
but the CBR is more comfortable.

Go with the slot between a V-Twin and a 4-cylinder, a Triple. The new Triumph Daytona 675, triples sound awesome! Plus, it's a bike that nobody really has!

i just got a bike, a katana 750, it is a tweaked down gsxr...

now answer a couple of questions.

how old are you? what is your insurance going to be? figure that on the total cost to operate.

i ask because the katana is considered sportbike/touring which lowers the insurance.

it comes in the 600 and 750 flavor and has some serious performance....

i love mine

just a thought
