Decent 24-port managed switch on a budget?

At work we are looking to a get a new 24-port gigabit switch for use at our system imaging area. It really doesn't need to do anything fancy except for supporting multicasting since we image multiple system at once (need IGMP v2 i believe).

Anyone have any good recommendations? I came across the Asante IC39240 which seems to have the features and is very reasonably priced...but I don't really recognize the brand or have any experience with it.

A suggestion someone gave me on another forum was a Dell PowerConnect 2824. That looks near perfect! Anyone have experience with that?

I would suggest checking out HP switches. Great features and the pricing is low. They also include a lifetime warrantee.

procuve 1814 or 1914? lovely low end switches. not for iscsi but great for edge access. you'd use a bigger model 2510G-24/48 for main (servers/etc) or 2910al-24/48 for ISCSI/FCOE

Ive had nothing but problems with the powerconnect line, management ports locking up, crappy spanning tree issues etc. I stay away from them at all costs.

Well I ended up going with a dell power connect 2824. I found a working coupon for it and got it for about $300. It is set up with snooping enabled now and has made an immediate improvement to multicasting speeds. It's going good so far!

Wish I saw this thread earlier, because I would have echoed this post. I had some that the management port would lock up on constantly, and then randomly start working again without anything being done. What good is a "managed" switch if you can't manage it?

Good luck with your powerconnect, OP. They certainly aren't the most reliable.

Hmm...well it's too late now (maybe). I guess I will just see how it goes. I'll run it for a week or two and if it gives trouble I can return it and get a an HP V1910-24G.
