December 252,000 job added - Unemployment down to 5.6%

Sadly, it looks like wages fell last month. That's very unfortunate news, despite the job growth.

Sigh.

My guess is that part of the jobs report was still obama's fault according to McConnell though. 😛

Since the GOP has taken credit for this improvement, does this mean now that the numbers will be acknowledged by the usual naysayers on here?

The household survey says that the total number of people employed fell by 476k last month, after falling 270k the previous month. I love how that is spun into some kind of good news! 506k left the labor force last month!

Real wages are not rising to reflect the "enormous" jobs gains of the last year, which surprises even me. Obviously there has to be a hell of a lot of cuts in wages and in hours in order for 2014's jobs gains to not register in income.

Wouldnt wage depression be expected until we hit full employment?

Kind of, from my understanding. As we get closer though we should in theory see some uptick as certain industries do hit full employment. I guess there is still more slack to go!

thats not how it works. It's wages for employed people.

November revised up to 353,000.

Wait? What? I thought the anti-Obama people were saying that the numbers were fixed. Now they're fixing those numbers even more??!

Businesses decided to hire because they knew turtle boy was going to be leading the Senate. No doubt about it 🙂

Wages will continue to drop, Profits will continue to rise. Credit will make up for the spread between the cost of living and decreasing wages.

People will just borrow more.

No one is playing the "Thanks Republican Congress" game.
Wages are down, costs me less to obtain services. Thanks Obama.
Unemployment is down, more people are working. Thanks Obama.

Anybody that things the information is positive isn't looking closely enough. The net is that wages are down, people are leaving the workforce, and the primary new jobs are low paying jobs hence the depression on ages.

Basically if it wasn't for inflation being kept low (primarily due to oil or at least a key contributor) we'd be in a world of pain. Instead we essentially have more of the same. The economy is growing but only in the tiniest scale - essentially we are flat.

No improvement but on the bright side very little is worsening.

Definitely improvement. There are about 3 million more jobs at the end of the year than there were at the beginning. That's excellent. Wages haven't increased much, but the idea that good jobs are being replaced by low ones is clearly untrue, as wages for the year are flat or up. (that would mean that the average new job pays on par with the current distribution)

Labor force participation should be expected to decline not just this year, but for years to come. The question is the rate of decline. A slower rate is positive news.
