Today is the Celebration of Winter Solstice Traditions –

Monday, December 21, 2009 marks the Winter Solstice traditions, and this is the announcement of the official start of the winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Winter Solstice is also known as Yule.

More precisely, winter solstice will take place at 12:47 pm EST (1747 GMT) on Dec. 21. It is a date that will also mark the shortest day and longest night.

Over here in the West coast it's supposed to be an El Niño winter which means it's going to be a big one. We've had one good rain but then it just shot right back up to almost 80F. We need some rain dammit. We've been in a drought for far too long.
