I'd like to get a wii for my daughter for Christmas but I think its complete bull shit that we have to resort to playing games and waiting in lines at store openings etc to get one a full year after they were released (and 2nd Christmas).

i'm trying to get one for my daughter too but I won't pay over 250 so I just gotta get lucky. She already knows she probably won't get it.

You didn't have to play games a few weeks ago. I could find a Wii locally any day of the week with a few calls. Now they're sold out before the shipment even arrives (people in my area actually wait in line at retailers for UPS to drop off shipments, to see if Wiis are in the boxes).

I always wonder why people wait until November/December to buy hot Christmas items.

Listen smarty pants... I've been casually watching the shelves at stores since last summer. I have yet to see a wii in stock in Syracuse NY where I live. They've ALWAYS been sold out for the last six months or more. Its the same now as it was then. I had other gift ideas before for my daughter that she has changed her mind on.

How can the be sold out before they are in stock if the stores aren't suppose to hold or reserve them?

Personally, I keep looking at the titles and don't see much I care for so I've been very ho hum about trying to get a wii, even last summer when I still didn't see them on the shelves. I guess you had to get there at the right time then too.

Like I said, there are people lined up inside stores, waiting for shipments to arrive to buy Wiis. I've see this at the local Gamestops/EBs in my area.

Bigger stores like Wal-Mart sell out their shipments in an hour or less.

Sundays are the best for actually buying one. If you're in line at Best Buy at least 90 minutes before they open, you'll get one.

Nobody is to blame for shortages. Nintendo is producing and selling Wiis faster than any system in the history of gaming, and the market is still hungry for them.

Where I am staying out of town for work in PA, the Walmart is open all night. The lady there told me Tuesdays they often get them in but none today. I'm going to drop by tomorrow around 11 or 12 and see if I get lucky.

I'll try my local Walmart near my office in Syracuse When I'm back in town on Friday and maybe try Sunday morning waiting at the door of BB to see. If I don't have one by then, I'll probalby give up. It ain't the end of the world and I won't prostitute myself to get a wii.

Truth be told, I have only once seen a Wii in a store in a year over here in Sacramento. That was in a Frys on a Sunday morning in August I think, thats it.

The only time I saw a Wii for sale in a store, I bought the last 2 they had. Haven't seen one in stores for about the last 3 months, and before I bought those 2, the last time I had seen one in stores was last January.

Ah Sacrademento, my old home for a few years after I graduated from Davis Sr High School!

Anyway..... SCORE! I talked to the lady in the electronics dept at the Bradford PA Walmart yesterday and she said to check back in the morning around 10. Sure enough I get there around 10:20 and they tell me they got in 10 off the truck and to get in line. Frist 10 people get them. There were 6 in line at that point so I jumped in line. A half hour later I walked out with a wii! Weeee! My daughter gets a wii for Christmas!

Last night was my first serious effort to try to get one and I only had to come in once after asking what to do! Anyway, I'm glad that sharade is over!

Congratz man, I hope she likes it.

Thanks! I was really paranoid it was going to be a nightmare getting one. But I guess you need to learn how to "play the game" to get one without a lot of trouble.

As it was, I was able to leave my work for a bit and just be there and get lucky. If this effort turned up empty, I was going to try one more time on Sunday morning and wait for BB to open and hope I could get one then.

Of course after I got the wii, my daughter leaves me a message on my cell phone saying, its ok if I don't get a wii cause she didn't think there were that many games she would like and an Itouch would be her next choice.

Grrrr... actually I think there are a few games that look cool. Zelda: TP and the new Mario Galaxy look really good. There are ALOT more games out this year than at launch last year.

Ok, well, I"m $250 poorer, but at least I didn't have to get one off of Ebay for a crazy price!

$250? What about games and extra accessories for family playtime? 🙂

At this point, I got the freaking console! Those extra things are probably available everywhere, its the damn console that so hard to get!

Anyway, it comes with a bunch of sports games bundled (tennis, golf, bowling, boxing and one other).

As for extra games, there are some candidates. Mario Galaxy is supposed to be good, as is Zelda: TP, and my daughter is into Bleach. If she gets some Christmas money, then maybe I'll let her buy a game with that.

I was able to get one off of craigslist. But i sold my first one 5 months ago after going to a local target at 2pm in the afternoon and asking if they had any. They said that there was a shipment of 5 that just came in 30minutes ago that they did not put out on the shelves. I got so lucky!

Damn,

I'm glad I got the wii last Wednesday. If I had to wait until the 16th, I'd be waiting in a snow storm which is supposed to dump 2 feed of snow on Sunday!

I saw 5 Wii's at Target about 3 or 4 months ago... and 1 at a friend's house.

I honestly believe the Wii console is a figment of my imagination... 🙂
