Decelerating...because of keyboard???

Hey all...
My mobo doesn't have a ps/2 port so i used a usb-ps/2 converter to connect both keyboard and mouse to the same port. So whenever i start playing a game like NFS, whenever i press the side arrows, the car decelerates..so i have to press/tap the up arrow again...is this due to the converter??
not only nfs, but any other game..
my microsoft keyboard has all the fancy buttons on the top (calculator,increase/decrease volume...) even they are not working...so is there any way to fix it or should i buy a new keyboard??D:

It's likely an issue with the keyboard. Some keyboards simply cannot register more than a few button presses at a time, and can be particularly picky about specific combinations. I'd try another keyboard and work from there.
