The Venezuelan government will distribute 14,000 houses before the end of 2005, as part of socio-economic programs promoted by President Hugo Chavez.

Housing Minister Luis Figueroa said Saturday that by December 31 no Venezuelan will remain in a shelter.

Figueroa said the government provided funds to purchase houses and will construct others to help reduce housing problems.

Venezuela is currently operating Mission Habitat to solve construction problems faced by families and create communities possessing all necessary services, from education to health.

What?! Feeding the homeless! But that is simply antithetical to the great American way! Chavez simply MUST be a terrorist!

It is good to see those oil profits instead of going to rich american CEO's going to a REAL use.

I really am suspicious but Chavez seems to be steadily keeping his promises.

Regardless more power to him I am proud to say Chavez is a neighbor with efforts like these.

Maybe you should do some research...
Venezula gets its money from its government owned oil industry.
America gets its money from YOU AND ME.

I dont want to buy someone else a house. I want to buy myself a house.

And lets compare the average medium income anyways. I'll take private business and a dog eat dog world over government owned business and free handouts.

If these people with a chance now with a actual home instead of total squalor want to get a middle class home they have a much better chance.

No child can get a decent education living in a shelter or homeless.

Chavez has grown an actual middle class and educated his people at a lightning pace not seen in decades.

Even if you hate the concept of socialism it has brought great oppurtunity to his people and I see no wrong in that.

hahahaahahahahahahahahha

You believe this? hahahahahaha

Its hilarious enough you think is actually possible, its even funnier that you somehow think 14,000 houses is at all significant.

But then you live in the United States, which is a land of opportunity when compared to Venezuela

You think their middle class is the same as our middle class? Their middle class is by definition poor here.

Caring for the homeless? thats communism or something even worse that hasn't been invented yet!

The correct republican action would be to sell homeless people to dog food factories and have them minced up for cheap tin food.

Remove those ugly eyesores and turn a decent profit at the same time, thats compassionate conservatism for ya!

Homes are not produced by the government. They come from the free market. The more of a free market you have, the greater number of total homes will be produced.

In this case and in all cases, socialism just makes everyone more miserable over a longer period of time. Socialism is the anti-thesis of progress. Unfortunately, this is one concept you "progressives" can never seem to understand.

The middle class is not doing that hot here actually.

I have seen studies that show in quite a few ways it is a superior place to live.

A strange concept huh? I always figured s america was doomed to be a total hole.

Yeah, yeah, and northern paris anarchy sounds even better right?

You, free-market nazi, anarcho-libertarian types are a real trip...

I know what your saying though...But I do not subscribe to uncontrolled markets, there is just too much corruption and profit driven human suffering this world is capable of.

Actually, those riots are a result of open immigration. I should point out thats something progressives push for, is being politically correct and having open borders and welcoming anyone and everyone with open arms.
This doesnt work. We know it doesnt work, but progressives refuse to admit that.
And that should be obvious by looking at the riots taking place in Paris.

But really, thats a subject for another thread.

Free-market nazi? That's a new one. I guess you forgot that nazis were fascists.

You authoritarians are a real trip. In fact, the trippiness never ends. Mystical beliefs in the 'will of the majority' or the 'sovereign.' Belief in deontological positive rights and enforcement thereof by the state (which is an 'expression' of the 'will of the people'), Belief in mystical properties of 'relic' documents such as the Constitution, irrational 'civic' duties such as voting, state legislation of moral values, and the linchpin of it all (drumroll please): existence of absolute authority of the state.....

If you actually took 10 seconds to really think about all the stuff that you believe in, you would realize that you believe in some truly nutty stuff. In fact there is a word for what you believe in. It is called a religion.

And let me tell you, your religion can really make your head spin.

I mean nazi in a friendly way as in "facsist iron grip". Not that it is a fascist market system...

And no Dissapate I know what you mean and I do not trust human nature and greed tendancies to regulate.

We are too fvcked up in the head from recent history of our race to be free like that imo.

Article that addresses this common fallacy.

I am already 2 steps ahead of you there, fine.

IF we were all deprogrammed from our self-loathing tendancies and hangups our history has burdened on us then yes, I would be a anarchist but I do not see that happening nor would I trust the deprogrammers.

Uh, I take it you have never been to Venezuela. Well I have. My first wife is from there, and truthfully the country is pretty bad. For all of this so-called "progress" that Chavez is supposedly making, the entire population of Venezuela would come here in a heartbeat if they could. That says an awful lot, now doesn't it?
