Debugging Methods for AGP

I recently added an Abit VP6 dual 370 off eBay to my folding farm (folding@home). While it performs as expected in terms of smooth multitasking under high load, I have an issue with AGP.

An FX5500 gives me a POST code indicating the video card is not recognized (one long beep, two short). An old Geforce 256 runs fine at AGP4x/SBA/FW on the VP6. The FX5500 runs fine on an even older Tyan S1854 mobo at AGP 2x/SBA/no FW. Thus, the FX5500 should work on the VP6, even if forced to 3.3v for whatever reason.

No amount of effort trying to adjust the FX5500 carefully in the slot has helped. Slot seems clean and undamaged. There is a slight chance that the case is not allowing proper alignment (to test I'll need to pull the board out and will if posters think that is a worthy pursuit). The card does require very careful seating on the Tyan to avoid random reboots, but once in properly gives no problems.

I do not have access to any other cards unless I buy one for testing, but before I pop for a 6800 Ultra on eBay, I am trying to determine with limited data if my VP6 slot might be bad, or if more likely the FX5500 is finicky.

Any ideas on more debugging steps I might try?

Think I'll bump just this once and see if there's a savvy soul on line this weekend.
