debugging lan throughput issues

Would appreciate your thoughts and opinions....

I think the wiring in my wall jacks is keeping me from better iperf numbers. At best, right now, iperf shows 450kbps with all firewalls and antiviruses turned off. (When connected with a short patch cable into a single router I get 960-980kbps throughput, so I know my computers can do better).

1. How can I test the jack to see if this is where my bottleneck is?
2. How much of a cable bend (tight turns) is acceptable for gigbit over cat5e?

Whats your error count when using the wall connection, that should be the only real data you need.

Sorry for the naive question, but how can I get error count from iperf? These are windows-based machines....
