You are not really debt free until you own your home.

Until then you are still paying someone else's debt for them by renting or paying for a mortgage.

Even then you never own your own home: you've always got to pay extra to the man with the guns what will take the land from you if you don't.

If someone can take it from you at any time and you have to pay someone for the 'right' to continue to use it: you don't own it.
