so each citizen's share of this debt is $26,898.42

What is so ironic, is that I think the average citizen has that much personal debt as well.

$26,000 per American?

That seems about right... with home ownership, school loans, etc.

Yes, but see it's NOT ok for citizen's to be in debt. As such, new bankruptcy laws are being put into effect and minimum credit card payments are increasing.

It's perfectly ok for the people that make these laws to run the country into debt, though. Those rules don't apply to them.

That will be China. It's an evil cycle. They loan us money to buy their product. Very sinister. They are doing everything in their power to keep the value of the dollar high to stave off inflation.

Billion is 1000 millions.
Trillion is 1000 billions.
As such, a Trillion is 1 million millions.

The debt was 'only' in the 4 to 5 trillion range in the late 90's. It's rate is increasing.

We need to start rolling back the debt clock as soon as we can or the USA could get in to serious economic trouble. Similar to the way Turkey or Germany got it's self in to debt many years ago and it's currnecy became virtualy worthless. No wonder the Pound is stronger than the US Dollar.
