I lost my wallet today and i called and closed the accounts as soon as i found out. There were 2 credit cards and 1 debit card in the wallet. No charges on 1 credit card, and a small charge from a oil station on another credit card. And the CSR from the bank told me there was 2 pending charges from Lowes on my debit card after the card was lost ($100 and $500). He said he will dispute it and it may take 45 days to get my money back.

Right now i was wondering will i get the credit back in 45 days? It's that true once i repport the loss i have no further liablity for unatuthorized charges and the maximum liability is $50 per card? In case you guys are wondering it's a Bank One debit card with Visa logo on.

Yeah, that charge from the oil station was on my Discover and they waive it from my account after i report it. But i'm not sure do i have the same protection on the debit card.

I think on my debit I'm liable for up to $50, but I'm not sure.
as far as getting everything back, I dont' think so, you might be out those $50

jbahseng, if your debit card has either a VISA or MC logo on it, you're covered as if it was a credit card. hope this helps :) Sorry about your wallet :(

same thing happened to me. Someone stole my wallet, had it for maybe 10 hours, charged over $100 worth of stuff at a gas station (prolly filled up his buddies cars and bought em all beer), and then charged like $120 at Wal-Mart at 4 in the morning. I disputed the charges, and got the money back within two weeks with absolutly no loss to me, and no difficulties. Sorry this happened, good luck with it :)

Like Sundog suggested read your account disclosure and agreement, it says in there what exactly you're liable for.

Your chances of paying $0 (or $50 maximum) are greatly increased if you reported the debit card lost/stolen BEFORE the fraudulent charges transactions took place.

Unless someone here works for Bank One's fraud department, none of us will really know the answer, it's in the above described documents.
