Debit card issue...please advise

Hi guys,

I recently have misplaced my debit card, and to my stubborness I figured that it'd just be somewhere in the house and that it'd turn up eventually.

I received my statement today and realized that there was a gas station charge of 50.00 dollars.

I'm sure the credit card company will help me w/ the 50.00 dollar dispute, but my question is, is there any way to find out WHO made this charge?

THanks

Hence the purchase at a gas station.

There are many places that charge your card as a credit card - no need for the PIN.

Really? I thought pretty much all banks had theft protection plans.

You're only liable up to 50$ with my bank(Wells Fargo) I believe.

Any chance of me or the cc company helping me find out who put the charges on? Or is it just too little for them to bother w/?

well take a moment to think about it. Will a bank really try to contact a gas station, possibly ask them to pull up their security feed, look for the exact car at the exact time that your card was used, try to see the license plate number, and then contact the police or the DMV to try to obtain that persons personal information? Over $50?

if you steal a pack of gum at stop&shop, they'll call the cops if you admit that you stole it.

that's just a little bit different... think of time versus rewards here. How long would it take a bank official to find out who used the card? If it takes more than a couple of hours, then they're already losing money

Just call the bank/card company and report the fraud. They will take care of it from there. My card has a $0 liability in case of fraud, most do. Since the card company is usually the one to eat the money from the fraud, they are usually very good about getting to the bottom of it. They have amazing resources at their disposal, a family friend is CFO of CapitalOne, he told me so.

A debit card from a bank has nothing to do with a CC company other than having a logo on the card. You should have reported it missing right away. I lost mine and got a replacement rather quickly. Later I did find it in my car. The bank might work with you on the $50 but then again they might not.

Mine does. Visa (in my case) actually manages features such as the daily withdrawl limit and other security features, as well as the actual transactions. It isn't worth it for most individual banks to have the capability for that.
