Debian's boot CD can't support USB keyboards?

It's been more than a year since I've used Linux. Before that I had it installed on one of my systems since 1997. I was on the list for Debian maintainership at one time.

So I download a 4GB Debian DVD and burn it. I boot it up, it complains about there not being a keyboard, and I'm stuck choosing the language. USB keyboard is selected in the BIOS.

Please tell me this isn't a Linux thing. It's 2006 and if they can't manage to make USB keyboards work at boot, I don't want to install it in the first place. 😛

the install works fine with my usb keyboard. I don't use the dvd or cd version though, netinstall for me. I'm not sure why it works for me, and not you though.

I had USB KB issues...untill I hit "boot" then I was fine...and this was an older box that didn't support legacy USB support (i.e. can't get into the BIOS with USB Keybaord).

IMHO, it's a motherboard problem, not a debian problem.

Well, the USB keyboard works fine with the BIOS and even the initial CD boot screen.

It's only once Linux has actually been loaded that the keyboard stops working.
