Lately my 40GB IBM has started making annoying beeping sounds at me, so I downloaded the Deskstar ID utility. It told me I should upgrade the drive's firmware to FA5AA, but I can't seem to find that so far. Anybody got it handy?

Googer and zagood - I sent them an email. Support is only Mon.-Fri. so I made this thread in case anyone has it handy.

P4D and everman, your comments are timely, I watched Star Wars (IV) last night and The Empire Strikes Back tonight. Widescreen editions of course, they look fantastic on my 2405 :)

Hence the reason you said "Deathstar" on the title? :D

Well, after discussion with HGST, and actually looking at the drive, it turns out it has Apple firmware on it. Anybody got a toll-free number for Apple support? I'm looking but I haven't found it yet...

Boy is there egg on my face...

The beeping sound wasn't the hard drive at all, as I took it out and continued using the PC without it. The beeping recurred - my CPU was getting too hot. I cleaned off the core and heatsink, and put on a fresh layer of '5 ... temp down by ~15-20 degrees.
