DSL is now cheaper than AOL dial-up.

Aol to become the way of Netscape and start fading into history?

I'm sure AOL will offer some 256k/64k ghetto-DSL and just market the hell out of it.

Hey, it's kept them alive this long.

I heard a good reason for keeping dialup today - the first ever: "it stops my daughter from using the internet too much." :D

Plenty of people still pay it. My uncle (an EE and AT/fatwallet member)'s wife refuses to use anything other than AOL because she finds it too hard. He can get DSL for about $5 cheaper a month in his area than what they are paying for AOL and the DSL would be much faster. But.... i guess the wife is always right.

<typical aol user> But if I don't have AOL, then I don't have the internet, right?</typical aol user>

Really though... I think the typical aol user is really not savvy enough to switch. All they know of the internet is what AOL smacks them in the face with.

All of these fools who pay 23.95 for AOL make me laugh. You can get AOL bundled with any Roadrunner package for free.

well it's not really that cheap because they make you pay for local phone service too with is like 23/month. So they are about even with comcast price wise now.

That's a big issue, many just honestly care enough to switch from having one program to now having two seperate programs for email and web browsing.

Can we blame them though? For what they do, the few bucks won't matter and the service is OK for them.

bingo, plus aol has the minor quirks which make browsing the internet "easier" its user friendly, email is in one spot, browser right there, etc. they dont need to have what we consider better because to them aol is better.
