death penalty

i just discovered that hanging is still authorized in delaware, new hampshire, and washington and that a firing squad is still authorized in idaho, oklahoma, and utah.

the last hanging was in Delaware on January 25, 1996
the last firing squad was in Utah on January 27, 1996

i found this quite surprising.

That is rather interesting. I doubt that they would still do either of those today unless the Warden felt like going old school.

Not really surprising...it takes a long time for someone to actually get the death penalty with the process of appeals and such...

but the fact that hanging and firing squads is still authorized, thats just weird.

i believe its the person to be executeds (sp?) choice

IIRC there was a case a few years ago where a death row inmate chose either hanging or a firing squad over lethal injection. He then went on to challenge his punishment as cruel and unusual. Don't recall how it came out.
