"Since its invention about 100 years ago, the automobile has killed and maimed more people then ALL the World Wars combined. War is abhored in the modern world, but just about everybody has a car in their driveway. In Canada, 9 people die, 605 are injured, and costs average 27.4 million dollars EVERY DAY ! - all related to motor vehicle crashes."

Hmm, is that true? I knew accident deaths were commonplace but I didn't think they were THAT commonplace. So what is that, like 50 - 100 million people dead from car accidents? That's insane.. maybe these govs. should think a bit about public transport

I'm not surprised. How much of that is caused by cellphone blabbering, drunk driving, reckless driving, not paying attention and other driver neglect?

comparing cars to war is recockulous.

but yea, bad driving kills a lot of people. which is why we should have an automated traffic system :)

Before that I outlawing arguing with passengers and blabbering on cellphone is important.

People don't realize the hazard and we should do better job teaching them.

A seemingly safe road sofa(lets say Excursion) driven by a typical "soccermom" is a 3000kg(usually) mass moving at 100km/h, possesing 15MJ of kinetic energy(hint=enough to destroy alot of things in its path).

well given the choice, i'd take the automated system. eventually we'll have to do that anyways. well not have to, but everything goes towards efficiency. this is why you see cell phones and whatever, because people need to do stuff and they don't have enough time.

Makes you think about every time you get on the road...anyone who talks on the cell, tailgates, or does any other dumb road behavior should check out the first post!
