Thanks for the edit Cogman, venting with no thought to grammar on my part. Didn't expect to go on as long as I did.
I once foolishly believed that reading/discussing politics on a board such as Anandtech would lead to doing so with individuals with a "greater than the average Joe" understanding of events transpiring in government and intelligent discussion of viable solutions might actually take place because of it. But, over the years, I've seen less and less intelligent discussion and more and more party talking points. Bu Bu But Bush, ZOMG Dems are spending us to oblivion Obama is a Kenyan Muslim etc....
Why are so many "smart" people so blind to the fact that D.C. is a plague upon this nation and (D) or (R) by someones name means absolutely nothing when it's all said and done(other than that particular individuals corporate sponsorship." An absurdly high amount of our "representation" has nothing more than big money donors interest's to consider and what we as a population need is irrelevant.
Instead of really wanting "change," most folks seem to be pretty content with "my guy is right and yours is wrong." These mostly career politicians DO NOT have your best interests at heart in general and so long as everyone continues to argue the talking point of the damn week real change is never going to happen because most people seem to buy that it's the other "side" that's to blame. The sides people seem to think exist really don't, the sides are apparently hidden.
Our government policy is set by the financial powers in this country(perhaps others as well) and so long as we continue turning a blind eye to it we're going to continue seeing midnight 1300 page bills released to be voted on in 4 hours and 1000 pages of shit that don't address the root causes of problems.
Most people in here seem to think that healthcare reform is necessary in some form due to accelerating costs and yet every proposal to come forth so far fails to address that core issue and yet there's those screaming for it because "we have to do something." What good is doing something if it doesn't address the root of the friggen problem?
So many folks supported saving the financial markets and yet turned a blind eye as legislation was rushed through that had no provisions for accountability of funds and allowed a long time member of the very industry that created the mess dole out funds as they felt necessary.
It's no mere coincidence that rivals of his alma mater were left to die while his "buddies" got the assistance they needed. If you missed it, the losses of GS were covered so they could continue to make money while all our 401s have been left in shambles.
"But we got the money back dummy so what's the issue?" Easy, our money was used to keep their investing power strong while everyone else was weak. Where would your 401/investment portfolio be right now if your loses had been negated when things were crap and you were allowed to use your initial stake in the market to ride it's recovery. (Hint, you'd have enough to pay back the losses + interest and still make a sizable profit.)
But instead of scratching our heads and saying "WTF is going on here" we cheer the effectiveness of the program that did nothing but get one over on us. On and on the list goes of "smart" people being blinded to the goings on in D.C. because they're too engrossed defending their "side." How is this ever going to get corrected when "individuals with a greater understanding than Joe sixpack" are still beholden to the system of blame deflection and not problem solving.
Smarter than the average Joe isn't getting there and the average Joe is a lost cause so where the hell is there any hope in this mess?
